Systrends
has directed and participated in the
end-to-end design, formation, and
implementation of market testing in various
energy markets within Canada and the United
States. These markets include Ontario,
Canada; Texas; Pennsylvania; New York; and
Ohio. Systrends has also worked for
several Regulatory Commissions on market
re-design related testing assignments.
These assignments have included writing
implementation guides, developing test
plans, providing test files for back-end
systems, validating EDI and XML
transactions, certifying trading partners
for production, and mediating testing
questions and issues.
Industry Level Planning
As the
founding Chair/Facilitator of the Ontario
Energy Board’s EBT Working Group, Systrends
led the group in the overall design of the
market including efforts to design and
implement first ever energy XML transaction
message sets, and the testing environment
for the Ontario, Canada retail energy
market. This included incorporating “best
practice” implementation methodology and
test scenarios
in line with stated guidelines mandated by
the Ontario Energy Board (OEB). The
careful and technically well-thought out
plan, in close coordination with the OEB and
the market participants, led to a successful
test plan execution consisting of specific
systems stress tests and testing milestones.
Market Readiness Monitoring
Systrends has garnered expertise in this
area from leading and participating in
multiple market test plans. Systrends
effective monitoring of market participant
readiness and progress throughout the entire
test plan was essential to successful test
completion and market opening. This
was achieved through active coordination and
open communications between the market test
coordinator, the governing body (e.g., the
OEB in Ontario, Canada, or the Electricity
Reliability Counsel or Texas (ERCOT) and all
of the market participants. Systrends
performed as the testing coordinator, the
focal point and key liaison between all
parties.

has designed and implemented “best
practices” test plans in multiple markets.
This includes a definitive scope and proven
measures for entering the test plan, for
executing specific test scenarios/phases
within the plan, and for successfully
completing the test itself. Systrends
provided the experience and know-how to
manage the test plan within the overall
market plan while addressing the technical
aspects and issues of the test scripts and
scenarios. Systrends provided the
management breadth and technical depth to
accomplish both successfully.
